Weekly work parties – Save Habitat and Diversity of Wetlands

Beginning on January 24, SHADOW (Save Habitat And Diversity Of Wetlands) hosts weekly Saturday work parties in 2015. Work parties to restore habitat on SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve? are hosted every Saturday from 10 AM – 2 PM, rain or shine. From planting native plants, removing invasive species, building habitat zones, carpentry, landscaping, trail maintenance and more – SHADOW works to preserve and restore wetland habitat in South King County. Most projects require moderate to heavy exertion, including but not limited to: lifting, walking, digging, pulling, and hiking. Please come with a water bottle, warm layers, and a smile! MLK Day of Service at SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve

On Monday, January 19, from 11 AM – 3 PM, join SHADOW in honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy with a day of community service! We will be performing our bi-annual road clean-up on our Adopt-A-Road route around SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve. Please bring a lunch, water bottle, warm clothing, and sturdy shoes. We’ll provide some light snacks and all safety gear. Must be able to walk up to two miles comfortably with frequent bending, lifting, and carry loads up 25 lbs.

Specifically needed are volunteers to lead, coordinate, and support:

Join us for our monthly 1st Tuesday Garden Care Invitational at the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden. From noon till dark each month, the Garden Manager and volunteers will be weeding, raking, thinning and potting up plants from the Botanical Garden’s collections. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned volunteer, we need your help and enthusiasm to keep our Garden looking spiffy and running smoothly. Come for an hour – or stay all day – and gather garden tips and techniques from new friends and old.
