Call to Artists – City of Normandy Park Display Case

Deadlines quarterly

The Normandy Park Arts Commission seeks sculpture, pottery, jewelry and other art objects suitable for the City’s public art display case. Dimensions for the showcase are 56″ tall by 45″ wide with adjustable shelves currently set at default heights of: top 17″, middle 25″, bottom 14″

Timeline:

Rolling quarters, entries are due 45 days before the start of each quarter. (Quarters run from February through April, May through July, August through October and November through January.)

Entry Requirements:

  1. Cover letter: Tell us about yourself and your relationship to your chosen medium, any inspirations, influences or thoughts on the value or role of public art in your community;
  2. Sample of work: Either a link to displayed work, or through e-mail with 2-5 clear images, ideally of specific pieces to be included in the display. Professional phtogoraphy is not required, just your best foot forward. Images should be presented in JPG format with image size set to 300 dpi resolution, 4″x6″ image size (or thereabouts);
  3. Optional: A resume including any biographical, educational and exhibition record information you wish us to consider. Previous exhibition experience not required.

Selection Process and Notification:

There is a three-person subcommittee of the City of Normandy Park Arts Commission which will review and select from submissions. Merit will be given to work of significant originality and artistic adventurousness. A waitlist of runners-up may be maintained for future consideration. Selected artists will be notified by e-mail within 30 days of installation date.

Accepted Artwork:

Artist will provide any accessories needed to display their work successfully in the case. Deliver to Normandy Park City Hall, 801 SW 174th Street, Normandy Park WA 98166 at a mutually agreed-upon time, at least one week before display duration.

Exhibit or Event Ends:

The last week of the third month, when an arranged takedown day is mutually agreed upon. Pick up artwork by the last week of the last month in the display period. Reception is an option to be discussed based upon your interest and availability.

Publicity:

City of Normandy Park resident e-mail newsletter and website; City Scene resident print magazine; SoCoCulture website.

Display payment is $200. Sales are handled on a private basis between interested buyers and the artist.
