Artist Talk with David Paul Bayles
October 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree with Museum admission.
Join artist David Paul Bayles as he discusses his work on the exhibit ‘Sap in Their Veins,’ a collection of photographs documenting the lives of Pacific Northwest loggers. In the 1980s the Spotted Owl Wars pit the logging industry against environmentalists over the protection of a tiny endangered species. Using oral interviews and photographs, Bayles documented the lives of those most deeply affected: the (mostly) men who made their living cutting down trees. As Bayles describes it, “the divisions were deep, passionate and mostly unyielding… I believe in the power of stories that reflect our shared humanity to help bridge those divides.”
Please join us for this thought-provoking event about the tension between human needs and environmental imperatives.
