BAT’s Shelter-in-Place Season – Zombie
May 30 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
One event on May 31, 2020 at 2:00 pm
BAT’s new 2020 ‘Shelter-in-place Season’ consists of five plays over nine weeks, read live online by talented actors with guidance from equally talented directors.
Zombie, by Bill Connington, is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novella of the same name. [https://celestialtimepiece.com/2015/09/29/zombie/] In this one-person show, we enter the mind of Quentin P__, a sexual psychopath and killer. Zombie is not a play about madness but is the voice and the logic of madness itself. The terror is not that Quentin P__ is so strange to us, but that he is so fearfully familiar.
You will not be able to look away.
The intense one-act, Zombie, won the 2008 FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Solo Show. Here is a trailer from that performance [https://youtu.be/K2DHfPK7dMM]
When BAT produced Zombie in 2010, an audience member wrote, “Finally, I came to understand why you’d want to put on this show; and I can certainly see why any actor worth his salt would kill to perform it: it’s a tour de force. My initial reaction had been mostly caught up in a knee-jerk reflex: My God, Burien can’t do a show like this! Which, of course, is precisely why Burien should do a show like this.”
Please note the script contains adult language and situations. This show is not suitable for those under the age of 16.
Cast: Quinten P____ – Bill Connington
Stage director: Maggie Larrick
The plays are the Artistic Director’s choice with little supervision. So they will be different than offerings found anywhere else on social media or streaming.
According to BAT’s Artistic Director, Eric Dickman: “Even if you saw the play onstage, a reading is a very different experience.”
Each reading will be live on Zoom. To see the reading, audience members must donate to BAT at the link on the landing page of their website at www.burienactorstheatre.org. There are donation levels in varying amounts to fit a wide range of budgets. Following the donation, the audience member will be sent an email with a Zoom link and password to get into the “show.”
Donations help fund the cost of the readings. The donations also help BAT and Click-4-Tix, BAT’s online ticket seller, as they both face hard times.
BAT has missed their audience very much and hopes to be together soon. “Stay safe, and wash your hands!”
This is a chance to experience something unique in these twisted times. The readings can only be seen live in real-time, or not at all. They will not be recorded. And because they are presented through Zoom, sweatpants are optional.
