Brazilian Carnaval 2023

This year’s theme “SAMBA” featuring Brazilian-born, Kent-based local favorite Eduardo Mendonça and Show Brazil!’s host talented musicians and dancers.
Special guests to celebrate of the biggest Carnaval in the Pacific Northwest include VamoLá, Raiz Brazil Seattle and DJ Irineu.
Exciting changes to this year’s carnaval celebration include a larger venue that can accommodate more party-goers – The Crocodile, at 2505 1st Avenue in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. The Crocodile is known for having hosted legendary bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Cheap Trick, R.E.M, and Yoko Ono.
Show Brazil!’s band will feature the Brazilian Carnaval music and dance from different regions of Brazil.
Eduardo Mendonça is a native of Brazil. Internationally recognized, he has performed in Brazil, Nepal, and Canada. This talented musician, composer, arranger, and musical director has explored the many and varied genres of Brazilian popular music, entertaining such notable personalities as the 14th Dalai Lama, Pope John Paul II, and former South Africa President Nelson Mandela. Mendonça appeared in the PBS “American Masters” documentary: “Paul Simon: Born at the Right Time” which aired in 1993. In May 2016, Eduardo performed as guest artist with the jointly sponsored Seattle Symphony-Carnegie Hall project “Link Up: The Orchestra Moves,” exploring the creative process of this passionate composer through melody and motif. Mendonça is the Music Director for iBuildBridges, and voting member for The Latin Recording Academy – Grammy.
