Experience Historical Kent – Soos Creek Botanical Garden
August 3 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pmFree (but bring money to buy plants!)
It is a little known fact that Soos Creek Botanical Garden was part of Kent until about 15 years ago, when the boundaries were changed to Auburn.
On Experience Historical Kent Day (August 3), there will be a free tour of the Garden at 11AM, followed by cookies and lemonade near the Schaefer Pond and site of the new pavilion. Those interested in a future rental venue for receptions, parties, memorials and classes are welcome to learn more. Volunteers will also be on hand to talk about the opportunities for helping in the many Garden areas: Garden maintenance, Propagation, Education, Docent Tours, Building projects, Scout liaison, Historical preservation, and the Nursery.
Scavenger Hunt for Children
Families are welcome and there will be a scavenger hunt for children, in which they can stroll with their family and find landmarks to check off the list, such as the new totem pole.
If you have never spent much me in the small but fascinating Heritage Center this will be a good me. Featuring artifacts, maps and historical photos from the Upper Soos Creek Plateau, the Garden’s two-room Heritage Center preserves 100 years of local history. The director, Maurice Skagen’s 500 page book, History of the Soos Creek Plateau from 1860 to 1960, will be available for purchase.
Garden Plant Nursery
The well-stocked Nursery will be open and you are invited to browse and find those special plants to purchase for your own garden. Whether you have a small patio and plant in pots or have acreage, the SCBG Nursery has something just right for you!
