Holiday Favorites – Gateway Concert Band
December 17 @ 7:15 pm - 9:00 pmNo admission fee, but a $10 donation is appreciated.
A delightfully diverse mixture of Christmas, Hanukkah, and other seasonal music for band, with a special clarinet solo from Ruth Orozco, performing Autumn Soliloquy. Other selections on the program: Prokofiev’s sprightly Midnight Sleighride (from the Lt. Kije Suite) is followed by a medley for the Jewish holiday, A Rollicking Hanukkah. The brass section performs a haunting chorale based on the Advent carol, Oh Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel. A clever setting of “Jingle Bells” is next, entitled Dashing Through the Snow. The first half of the concert concludes with a setting of three familiar Christmas carols entitled Three Noels, followed by a medley of Christmas favorites entitled Good Tidings to All.
The second half of the concert opens with a rousing fantasy, And the Mountains Echoed: Gloria! based on “Angel We Have Heard on High”. Next is a beautiful setting of the Christmas classic, O Holy Night. Four Christmas “pop” favorites are presented in the medley for which our concert is titled, Holiday Favorites. The Ukranian Bell Carol is given a stirring new treatment in A Christmas Bell Carol. More Christmas “pop” favorites are presented in A Most Wonderful Christmas. The concert concludes with the audience singing along to Leroy Anderson’s highly popular medley of traditional Christmas carols, A Christmas Festival.
