In Whose Honor – American Indian Mascots in Sports – Meaningful Movies at Federal Way Library

November 10 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

In Whose Honor: American Indian Mascots in Sports takes a close look at the long-running practice of using various Native American cultural symbols and phrases in the form of mascots and nicknames in sports. The film examines issues of racism, stereotypes, the powerful effects of the media and the lengths one university went through in order to defend and justify its mascot. After the film, a discussion will be facilitated by Lance Rhoades, Seattle-based film scholar.

In Whose Honor? is presented as a collaboration with Meaningful Movies Matinee, a social justice documentary film and discussion series aimed at educating and engaging the Federal Way community.
