John D Spellman Awards in Historic Preservation

We are thrilled to celebrate the contributions of Dr. Elizabeth Stewart at the 2025 John D Spellman Awards in Historic Preservation! Join us at the beautiful Lake Wilderness Lodge in Maple Valley for the 2025 John D. Spellman Awards, an annual celebration honoring exceptional contributions to historic preservation and heritage work throughout King County. This year’s ceremony recognizes individuals and organizations whose dedication, leadership, and creative vision help preserve the stories and places that shape our shared history. Guests will gather for an inspiring program, meaningful acknowledgments, and a chance to connect with preservation partners from across the region as we celebrate this year’s distinguished awardees.
Dr. Elizabeth P. Stewart is being honored with the 2025 John D. Spellman Award for Career Achievement in recognition of her decades of service interpreting and sharing King County’s rich heritage. Recently retired after nineteen years as Director of the Renton History Museum, Elizabeth led major exhibits, educational outreach, strategic planning, and community partnerships that expanded the museum’s impact. Her work with Renton High School students, award-winning collaborations, and leadership in bringing thought-provoking exhibits like Sorting Out Race to Renton have deepened public understanding of local history. Elizabeth also served as a valued heritage and preservation resource for the City of Renton and as the City’s Special Commissioner to the King County Landmarks Commission.
