Renton History Live

July 27 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Suggested donation of $3 for adults, $1 for students; members are always free.

Join us for a day of free hourly performances of “Learning American,” a special one-act play just for Renton River Days. Pieter Prins immigrated from the Netherlands in 1904, settling first in Maple Valley before moving to Renton. Prins had many jobs throughout his life in Renton, but throughout them all he taught citizenship classes for new Renton residents from the 1920s through the 1950s at the Renton Americanization School. This School was the first stop for hundreds of new Rentonites seeking citizenship, but who learned more: the immigrants or the teacher? The third in our series of plays based in Renton historical sources, “Learning American” will be a thought-provoking– and fun– chance to learn more about our city. Every hour, on the hour, from noon to 4pm. Admission is FREE during Renton River Days.
