In this immersive Zoom presentation, explore the unique flora of the South Island of New Zealand, where the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden’s Assistant Horticulturist Kyra Matin studied local flora and ecology. As part of the University of Washington’s Master of Environmental Horticulture program, Matin spent four months working at Dunedin Botanic Garden and collecting wild, native seed. The collected seeds were brought back to Washington and added to the collection of the Pacific Connections Garden, which features plants from five Pacific Rim regions with similar climates – China, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, and Cascadia. The talk includes photos of the plant-rich hinterlands and even a few photos of the celebrated Rhododendron Dell at the Dunedin Botanic Garden.
