SoCoCulture membership meeting – Racial Equity Matters – Part 1

September 16 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

We hope all of our SoCo members will take part in this membership meeting, especially considering this dynamic time in our nation’s history and the opportunities and barriers that exist within our own richly diverse demographics in South King County!

4Culture, a primary funder for many of our county’s cultural organizations, revised its Mission and Vision statements a couple of years ago to say the following:

Mission: With a focus on racial equity, we fund, support, and advocate for culture to enhance the quality of life in King County.

Vision: We envision a vibrant county where culture is essential and accessible to all.

In this meeting, we’ll hear from 4Culture executive director Brian Carter and other 4Culture staff members about how those statements have shaped their organization’s work and funding decisions.

We’ll also hear from SoCo members Nancy Salguero McKay/Highline Heritage Museum and Bennyroyce Royon/Evergreen City Ballet, who have been addressing racial equity in their organizations.

And we’ll offer all of our SoCo members a menu of racial equity resources from which you’ll be able to curate your own study.

This meeting is the first in a two-part series on racial equity matters. Please plan to join us! We’ll be sending a Zoom link out to our regular membership mailing list about a week ahead of time. If you are not sure you are on that list, and would like to ensure that you receive the link, please contact Barbara at info@sococulture.org or 206-878-6912.

And we’re grateful to JessieĀ  Kotarksi and the City of Renton for hosting this Zoom meeting for us!
