SoCoCulture membership meeting – Volunteer Engagement and Innovative Inclusion
September 10 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
Struggling to recruit volunteers? Having a hard time keeping them once they do commit to your organization? We know volunteers are essential to meeting the mission and vision non-profits establish to support their community, yet many organizations struggle to recruit and retain them. In this workshop led by Alex Ropes, participants will learn best practices for the recruitment and retention of volunteers through an interactive discussion and inspiring activities. The group will come away from this workshop with the tools to create a solid foundation to set their volunteers, and their organization, up for success, and keep volunteers coming back for more!
Alex Ropes is the Volunteer Manager for Amara, a non-profit that serves children in foster care in Pierce and King County. Prior to working for Amara, she was the Volunteer Manager for the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County where she grew a core of 100 routine volunteers to 350. Alex has also been a dedicated Steering Committee Member for the Volunteer Administrators Network Northwest for the past four years. She is committed to supporting other leaders in volunteer engagement by facilitating workshops in everything from volunteer engagement to compassion fatigue. She has held workshops regionally for VANNW, and nationally for the Humane Society of the United States. Born and raised in the South Sound, where she was recognized as a 40 Under 40 Honoree in 2017, she lives in Tacoma with her husband and a menagerie of adopted rescue animals.
The program is being hosted by the Tukwila Arts Commission and Tukwila Arts Commissioner Sheila Coppola, and it will be hosted at Coppola’s Sidereal Fine Arts Studio.
This professional development meeting is one of the membership benefits of SoCoCulture, and all SoCo members are encouraged to send a representative from their organization to this session. Doors open 15 minutes early (9:45 AM) for refreshments and networking. Program begins promptly at 10 AM.
