Webster’s Dictionary describes “celebrations” as “joyful activities for special festivities to mark some happy event” and symphonic as “harmonious and pleasing musically, especially in form, interweaving of themes and creative mixtures of tone colors.” These concerts are guaranteed to satisfy all those descriptors and more! The concerts will also feature our director, Jack Prindle, playing a solo on trumpet with the band.

The program begins with the thrilling Monarch Fanfare. Next, fitting well with the theme of the concert, the band plays A Symphonic Celebration. Then, our director, Jack Prindle, hands off the baton to assistant conductor, Stephanie Magnusson, while he plays the poignant trumpet solo part in Alan Hovhaness’ Prayer of Saint Gregory. Evoking images of “steampunk” contraptions, the band then plays Extraordinary Machines of Clockwork and Steam. After the equally contemplative and stirring When We Go, comes a march entitled The Governor’s Own. The first half of the concert concludes with Frank Erickson’s band standard, Overture Jubiloso.

The second portion of the concert opens with a fun piece inspired by a butterfly release entitled In Joyous Flight. Next is an intricate and masterful treatment of the tune from “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”, Blessed Are They. To Horizons Unseen ponders and celebrates the unexpected and exciting paths our lives can follow as we travel along life’s journeys. After assistant conductor, Todd Frazier, leads the band through the gentle and beautiful Sleepsong, the band portrays an exhilarating climb up and back down of Pikes Peak. The program ends in high style with the rousing Selections from The Incredibles 2.

The Gateway Concert Band is a community band based in Enumclaw, directed by Jack Prindle.
