The Power of Heritage Drumming – Muckleshoot Library

January 18 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

For teens and adults.

In cultures around the world, drumming traditions mark celebrations and ceremonies, provide therapeutic benefits, and ensure the transmission of traditions across generations.

Presented by musicologist Javoen Byrd, this participatory drumming workshop will discuss the importance of using culture as a tool of empowerment and entrepreneurship, drawing on his research into the drum traditions of the Yoruba in West Africa. All attendees will be encouraged to engage in the act of music making with the provided drums.
