The Ultimate Holiday Concert – Gateway Concert Band

There is no admission charge, but a $10 donation is recommended.

This concert is the ultimate selection of Christmas, Hanukkah and winter music, sure to delight every listener. It features Wendy Parker of our French horn section singing “The Christmas Song” and Darrell Miller, the beloved drama teacher of Enumclaw High School, narrating “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” with a clever band accompaniment.  For more information or directions, call 360-825-5369 or visit http://www.gatewayconcertband.org.

The program begins with a stimulating overture expressing the joy and excitement of the season entitled Exhilaration. Next is an enchanting treatment of two Christmas carols from the Emerald Isle entitled A Celtic Christmas. The trumpet section, led by our director, Jack Prindle, step forward to display the fun of the catchy classic, The Toy Trumpet. Following A Hanukkah Festival, Wendy Parker of our French horn section is featured singing The Christmas Song with the band. The first part of the concert concludes with a masterful arrangement of five traditional Christmas carols entitled Winterfest.

The second portion of the concert opens with the rousing Fanfare and Procession on an Old English Carol. Next is a mesmerizing setting of Greensleeves, which many will recognize as “What Child Is This. The Carol of the Bells is given a tricky and exciting treatment, followed by a surprisingly jazzy presentation of “Gesu Bambino” entitled Child of Bethlehem. Then, the is joined by Darrell Miller, the drama teacher from Enumclaw High School, as he recites ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas with a clever band accompaniment. Following An Irving Berlin Christmas, the concert concludes with the audience singing along with the band in The Ultimate Christmas Sing-Along.

The Gateway Concert Band is a community band based in Enumclaw and directed by Jack Prindle. Formed in March of 1996, it has presented over 270 performances in its 23-year history; all of the band’s concerts have been free-of-charge. The band is open to interested adult and competent high school instrumentalists, without audition. It rehearses on Monday evenings at Enumclaw Middle School from 7-9 PM.
