Art on Main Gallery
Dates: 7/18 – 10/4/2020

Installation artist Margaret Byrd has created a colorful and kinetic abaca fiber installation for the City of Auburn. This particular adaptation of Swizzle Sticks is comprised of approximately 450 abaca ‘swirls’ suspended from the ceiling and in upright clustered sculptures. The air is gently circulated to create a dynamic experience in an otherwise static environment.

Margaret Byrd is a Seattle-based artist who has explored various mediums for 30 years. Graduating from the University of Montana with a BFA in Photography, she discovered her love of mixed media and installation late in her studies. She has been able to weave her creativity into a daily practice and is currently painting, working with sculpture, and developing her next site-specific installation project. Her work has been selected for juried exhibitions in the Pacific Northwest and purchased for permanent collection at the University of Montana. While raising her children, Margaret actively developed art docent programs to promote creativity in the public school system and taught art workshops for children.  Wanderlust has kept Margaret traveling the globe and has greatly impacted her visual aesthetic.
