Artist Trust is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to support and encourage artists working in all disciplines in order to enrich community life throughout Washington State. Through grants and professional development opportunities, Artist Trust has invested over $10 million in individual artists throughout the state since its inception in 1986. As a fundraising organization, Artist Trust relies on our donors and community partners to make our support for Washington State artists possible.Artist Trust is committed to becoming an anti-racist organization, and to work against the systems of racism we have inherited, upheld, and perpetuated. We know we are not there yet. Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) have been systemically oppressed, and we are committed to partnering with them to eradicate white supremacy throughout our organization and to support historically marginalized artists across Washington State.
In July 2020, Artist Trust was called into question by the community for upholding white supremacy and institutional racism; we were challenged to address and reimagine our current policies and procedures. Artist Trust’s staff and board are committed to dismantling these systems and desire to rebuild the organization with accountability to artists, donors, partner organizations, the community at large, and ourselves.
Artist Trust is seeking a racial equity audit to be conducted over 3 to 4 months beginning in March 2021 with the option to extend. Click here for more information about the opportunity.
