VETS ENGAGED is a social engagement funding program of the 2018-2023 King County Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy – the VSHSL. It awards mini grants of $9,999 for entities to convene community-building events and activities that can create, strengthen, and sustain social networks. Its goal is to reduce veterans’ sense of isolation by providing opportunities for veterans and their families to socialize with other veterans as well as non-veterans.
What is the VSHSL?
Approved by the voters in 2017, the King County Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy – the VSHSL – is a six-year property tax. Its proceeds promote healthy living, housing stability, financial stability, social engagement, and service system improvement and service system access for veterans and military servicemembers and their respective families, seniors and their caregivers and vulnerable populations. The VSHSL expands and builds on the success of the former Veterans and Human Services levies approved by King County Voters in 2005 and 2011.
The guiding principle of the VSHSL is to build and improve connections among the people the levy serves and among the people and organizations that provide the levy’s services. For more information, visit kingcounty.gov/VSHSL. King County also manages its own veterans program. It’s the local hub for connecting veterans to services throughout the County. Individuals and organizations are invited to apply for $9,999 in funding for projects that provide King County veterans social engagement and community-building activities. Applications are accepted and funding awards announced throughout each year, from 2019 through 2023, on a quarterly basis or when the number of applications demands.
