Julie Blakemore taught art in public and private schools in the Northwest for 43 years, retiring from Kennedy Catholic High School, Burien, in 2013.
She was born and raised in Adna, WA, a quiet dairy farm community. Her parents supported her artistic bent and she obtained a degree in Art Education from the University of WA and later an MA in Administration with a Visual Arts Focus from Bank Street College, New York, NY.
Julie studied extensively at Gage Academy, Seattle, to hone her skills and has exhibited at many shows and galleries around the Northwest including Burien Art Gallery; Auburn City Hall; Oldfield Heritage Center and Gallery, Puyallup; Davenport Cellars, Woodinville; Street Bean Espresso, Seattle; Washington State Fair, Puyallup; Ballard Works, Ballard; Bainbridge Arts and Crafts Gallery, Winslow; Fusions Gallery, Ocean Shores; Gage Academy, Seattle; and most recently Pacific Bonsai Museum, Tacoma.
There was a turning point in Julie’s painting during her study for an MA in 1995, which also included a requirement to obtain a Certificate of Mastery in Painting from Parson’s School of Design, New York, NY. “I became determined to search for my truth as an artist, to paint seriously, and to express my personal story in a professional way,” she said. She has painted extensively for the last 19 years.
She is a member of an association of modern painters, JBOPS (Just a Bunch of Painters), which grew out of her studies at Gage Academy.
All art is for sale. Proceeds support the artist and the Burien Art Association, your local arts non-profit delivering art, jazz, poetry, theater, and art workshops to the Burien community.
